“Turn it Around! Flashcards for Education Futures” (TIA) is a learning tool for adults, made by youth, to reimagine our approach to education, and our relationship with nature and the living world during this time of climate crisis. Usually, flashcards are designed by educators for students and children. This deck of flashcards is designed by youth for education policymakers, politicians, and teachers to challenge them to think, see and act in new ways. By flipping who teaches who, this project is a reminder that everyone – and everything – must change.

On the TIA site you will find a collection of flashcards designed by young artists and writers from around the world, which were included in the print edition of “Turn it Around! Flashcards for Education Futures” and distributed to policymakers, educators, politicians, and others to envision a radically new future. New artwork and writing are added to the set, through the ‘Submissions’ link on the site.

You can order a print edition of the cards for your own classroom, workgroup, or conference here, or use the online repository to hold your own workshop, discussion, or learning activity. Share your results with us, and we will share them with the world!

This project is produced by the Artists’ Literacies Institute and artist and Creative Producer Adriene Jenik, in partnership with researchers Iveta Silova and Ann Nielsen from Arizona State University, and with the support of Open Society Foundations and UNESCO’s Futures of Education initiative.

A Policy Report on the Project can be found here.
