COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Senior Projects "A" course is the first of two consecutive courses in which the student conceives, researches, produces and presents an original interdisciplinary art project. In the A portion of the course, we will focus on generating and formulating ideas, placing those ideas in conversation with the larger art/research context, researching, mining campus-based and other resources, and learning key concepts in organization, production and structure of large projects. By the middle of the course, students will have begun production on their projects which will be completed and presented publicly next term. Since it is often the case in art/tech projects that our ambitions outpace our individual skill-set, collaborative projects are allowed and encouraged.
CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Students are expected to attend all classes on time and ready to fully participate. Each student will prepare an online design document which will be revised and updated throughout the quarter. The document will reflect the themes, research, and scope of the project as well as anticipated production milestones. Students will present their work in progress to the Prof and the class several times throughout the quarter. Readings (customized to student interest), and a short paper (which will also be posted online) relating the student's project to contemporary art, tech/science research, theory, or social movements are the only assignments beyond the work-in-progress. Students will attend a field trip to an art and technology exhibition in Los Angeles.
CLASS EVALUATION
10% attendance & participation
