I am a telecommunications media artist and public university educator. My creaive work, including MAUVE DESERT: A CD-ROM TRANSLATION,
EL NAFTAZTECA (w/Guillermo Gomez-Pena),
and DESKTOP THEATER (w/Lisa Brenneis and the DT troupe), uses the collision
of "high" technology and human desire to propose new forms of literature, cinema, and
performance. After 11 years in the Visual Arts Department
at UC, SAN DIEGO, I am now Director of the School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. My recent projects and research (SPECFLIC and OPEN_Borders Lounge) instigate large-scale public art events utilizing community-based wireless networks.
